Re: Overdrive switch ?

Slipping into neutral is not good practice and I think that you may find coasting is illegal on British roads because you do not have full control of the vehicle, the engine is on tickover thus not providing enough vacuum for the brakes if you use them too often which you are more likely to do when ...

Re: Timing control Valve

Hi All Started car up about 4 weeks ago and it was knocking its head off for about ten seconds, drove to work in it but the engine management light came on and it went into limp mode, my diagnostic code reader would not communicate with the car so I had to do some old fashioned diagnostics, the knoc...

Re: Electrical Fault

Hi Alfearnley
My central locking does the same when I lock it with the key but if I lock it with the switch on the inside of the drivers door and hold the outside door handle in the open position when I close the door all is ok.

Re: ECU pinout diagram

Thanks Paul
But I am afraid that is not the same layout as my ECU, mine has 4 plugs and 3 rows of pins as apposed to 3 plugs and 2 rows in the manual.

Re: Overdrive switch ?

Hello Ibex A torque converter is very similar to a fluid flywheel, ie an impeller driven by the engine and a turbine connected to the gearbox, a torque converter also has a stator positioned between the two which redirects the fluid with more force onto the turbine when needed ie when pulling away, ...

Re: Overdrive switch ?

Hi Ibex The torque converter does not freewheel, it just unlocks the torque converter so it will act like any other torque converter which does not have a lock up function, at 70mph when you let your foot off the throttle the engine will not drop to tickover and will still provide engine braking to ...

Re: Overdrive switch ?

Hello Ibex The bump you feel at motorway speeds could be the torque converter locking up at approx 56mph. When the overdrive is disengaged there is a warning lit up on the dashboard to warn you. If you are getting 29mph you are doing very well indeed, the best I have ever got is 27.5 mpg on a long r...
