Re: wheel sizes to fill the arches

Thanks for the feedback Kiwivia. Was surprised to see you quoting in NZ$ then noticed kiwi, we are in CND, hence the 4000 elevation. 11km/ltr !!thats very good, and sorry about the ¨small van¨ comment! What ever the size, great vans and drive much better than the larger ones here. With the frequent ...

Re: wheel sizes to fill the arches

We fitted new 225/75 R15 snow tires on the 1995 Granvia AWD Diesel van and it did rub agaist the plastic splash guards when making sharp turns when parking. Normal driving they work well. As for the higher center of gravity, not much affected adversly, but then the van width is rather narrow compare...

Re: Can I drive my 4x4 temporarily as 2wd?

Thank you for your explanation, much appreciated. But your comment on the chain, may change my plan and renew the other half-shaft too, but was told it looked okay?? In the seventies we used Ford, GMC, Dodges in the exploration field and a number of chains had to be replaced, BUT I cant imagine the ...

Re: Can I drive my 4x4 temporarily as 2wd?

On my 4x4 one front half shaft had to be replaced and the one from the Landcruiser does fit. Apparently the transfer case chain skips a tooth now and then and would also like to make it into a rear wheel drive only. Does the transfer case have to be removed inorder to weld solid the viscous coupling...

Re: Vibration between 30-70 kph while accelerating

I take it, it is all speed related, ie getting worse as speed increases.
No vibration in steering wheel?
Is there a noise coming from rear diff? Any oil leaks there?
Am at a loss............maybe time for an experienced mechanic.

diesel holding back

After refueling and about 40 km later, the diesel suddenly held back going up hill. On the flat it wasnt too bad. Replaced the fuel filter, but all was in good shape. Now after a new tank of diesel, it still holds back going up hill with black smoke and a clicking noise coming from computer board be...

Re: Vibration between 30-70 kph while accelerating

It could be a worn out u-joint. Put a large screw driver in the joint and see if there is any play.
It could also be the prop shaft out of balance, by having lost one of the weights.

Re: Lost the only key :(

Just a few days ago on TV in Vancouver, I heard a story about an owner of a self imported toyota(grey market), who had lost their only key.
Apparently Toyota will only cut a new key if you drive the car to factory or dealer where the original owner bought the car from in Japan ??

Re: Torque and mpg

In a previous comment re; slowing down van with brakes v. transmission use on AWD. I usually switch of OD instead of foot brake. I lived in the Peak District of Derbyshire in the seventies with a few hills but relative short ones, and from what I can remember England is relatively flat, so slowing d...

Re: Torque and mpg

Thank you for explaining the ECT switch, and as a Jaguar collector, am more familiar with the "S" term as in Sports mode, accelerating longer thru the gears. Interesting read on the petrol powered Granvia, no doubt quieter and easier starters in winter, but I prefer diesel. Propane convers...
