Re: Tow Bar and Rear Exhaust Box

Are we talking about a Granvia or a Hiace here - I'm not sure if the exhaust systems are the same - so the fitter might be right. It might be possible to reposition the silencer box slightly differently by using longer or shorter rubber hanging mounts. Unfortunately the exhaust sections bolt togethe...

Re: Granvia Shocks needed in Australia

I ordered four OE shocks (Kayaba) through my local Toyota dealer (uk) and found they were cheaper at around £50 per corner than the pattern rubbish on e bay.

I would have thought a Toyota main dealer in OZ could do this too if you supply a chassis number

Re: battery

I have a 95 amp/hr battery in mine

Its' a GM (Vauxhall) part and is a little bigger physically (I had to modify the plastic base) but spins the motor very swiftly - cost about £90 - £100 from any Vauxhall main dealer

Re: Replacement Alternator

You can get a part number from your toyota main dealer by quoting your chassis number. They could probably supply one too but would be expensive once you have a part number it should be possible to source from a specialist independent however I had mine rebuilt by a good auto electric guy for about ...

Re: bigger alloys

16" tyres with a 60 profile would be pretty much the same rolling radius as the stock 215/70 x 15 - so gearing and speedo accuracy would be unaffected.

If the wheels are wide enough 225's fill the arches nicely and don't foul anything

Re: insurance what a pain

I have a 96 3.0D 8 seater and pay around £200 fully comp (full NCD, based in Suffolk, £250 XS) with Chaucer Direct. Easy to contact (they are in Whitstable) premium stays competitive year on year (unlike some others who start low to lure you in and then hike it up on renewal) Free euro cover up to 9...

Re: bigger alloys

The wheels in the picture are five stud so won't fit the Granville six stud hubs. Try and keep the overall size and offset the same to avoid fouling or gearing issues

Re: bigger alloys

I have 16" alloys on mine running 225/60 tyres. These give pretty much the same gearing as the stock 70 profiles on 15" wheels. They are quite wide at 8" and have an offset of 140mm. They fill the arches nicely but don't foul on anything. Slightly firmer ride than 70s but nothing too ...

Re: Intermittent engine cut-outs: fuel relay?

Yes does sound like a relay, or perhaps the solenoid (on or around the pump which actually shuts the fuel off to stop the engine) clicking off when it shouldn't do. My money's on the relay - the solenoids can get stuck in the off position when left a while, but once they're on they usually stay on. ...
