Rear Heater problem

Having got to the bottom of some recent ventilation and Aircon issues (thanks to David remembering an old thread) which turned out to be some tired old relays, I'm now keen to get the rear heater working which has been out of action since we purchased our 96 2wd 3.0D two years ago There's nothing ha...

Re: 1KZ-TE porous/cracked cylinder head?

Thanks for the info Steve $600 NZ sounds like a good deal (would that be about £350 GBP?) I think a stock system would cost that here in UK. I'll investigate further so that if my present exhaust goes west I may replace with a bigger bore system as you have done. I had some custom collector pipes in...

Re: 1KZ-TE porous/cracked cylinder head?

Hi Steve Thanks for your post - very interesting, and would explain quite a lot. Is the larger exhaust system available over the counter anywhere or are we talking about a custom made one-off? I presume they make a small adjustment to the fuelling to compensate for the reduced back pressure of a les...

Re: Heater/Aircon control panel problem

Hi David Thanks for the thread - it's all sorted and I havn't spent a penny. A wallop on the circular 15a relay got things going, and so I opened it up gave the contacts a clean and tweaked the arm a little and it works perfectly now. While I was in there I gave the relay for the rear cooler (which ...

Re: Heater/Aircon control panel problem

Hi David

Thanks for the info - you're a star I was just about to buy a control panel from e bay!

Since posting it had occurred to me that it might be a relay issue - good to have it confirmed - I'll get on it straight away

Thanks again

Heater/Aircon control panel problem

Has anyone else had problems with this? I have an intermittent fault that has developed on my 96 Granvia. When the motor is started the heater controls are dead - no lights no fan nothing, After a while it all lights up and the fan and direction buttons all work BUT if I switch the Aircon on everyth...

Re: 1KZ-TE porous/cracked cylinder head?

Well t'is all done now. Ended up going for a Japanese head, pattern but supposedly OE quality(?!) and modified to cure the cracking problem. came in at 599.00 with exchange cam fitted and shimmed, full top gasket set, new valves installed, glowplugs, bolts and cambelt. It seems excellent quality - w...

Re: 1KZ-TE porous/cracked cylinder head?

Well the head's off now and I found cracks between the valves on cylinders 2,3 and 4! 2 and 3 are just hairlines but 4 was a pronounced one that you could feel with a fingernail, so suspect that was where the water was going. The hilux site is littered with stories of head problems (one poor guy was...

Re: 1KZ-TE porous/cracked cylinder head?

Thanks for the info My mechanic said the same thing - recon or repaired are waste of time. I've found NEW pattern heads (probably made elsewhere in far east) for around £400 including exchange cam and valves - all assembled and shimmed and supplied with gasket set and new bolts. These would be a dif...

Re: 1KZ-TE porous/cracked cylinder head?

Thanks for the info I did spot an ad for K Seal on E Bay (in amongst all the ones for cylinder heads!) and it does sound good but I've no experience of it myself - so interesting to hear your comments after using it successfully. I'm about halfway through removing the head now so I'll think I'll car...
