Postby PUSHKIN » 13 Jan 2018, 23:30

My Granvia 1999 3.4 Auto 4wd is a bit harsh over bumps/potholes/sleeping policemen etc is this normal or does she need fettling ??

I replaced all 4 tyres recently from standard van-type which were fitted when we bought the van to Michelin campervan-specific and the ride quality improvement was immediately noticable.

Hope that helps.

Indeed, I did wonder about the van spec tyres.

The harsh ride of the Granvia shows its origins in its design as a commercial vehicle. The benefit is a reliable suspension capable of bearing heavy loads.

You can replace the tyres with ones with fewer plies to give a softer ride, but it's always a compromise - you'll have a shorter tyre life and greater fuel consumption - it's your choice!

The tyres that are on may very well be original as it’s only done 13000 mls, they’re Bridgestone, all matching, all similar wear so i’ll put up with the ride till they’re a little more worn .

Just be aware that tyres have a finite life -I replaced mine not because they had worn tread but because they were 6 years old and were showing signs of perishing. Hurts to throw away tyres with plenty of tread but I feel a lot happier (and more comfortable) now.

Hi Paul, I did think about that after i’d written that reply, they don’t look to be aged in anyway but am going to check date stamp just to be sure, just as soon as the rain stops going horizontally :-)
