Tow Bar and Rear Exhaust Box

I had a towbar fitted recently but it's touching the rear exhaust box and the noise is unacceptable. The fitter is saying the rear box is non standard as the towbar is a standard hiace part. I'm taking it to an exhaust centre to see if they can do anything but just wondering if anyone has had this issue before and how it was resolved.

I have had the exhaust replaced in 2013 part number ADT36013 which appears to be a hiace exhaust so wondering if the wrong box was fitted?

A bit frustrated the fitter continued to fit knowing it was touching the exhaust box and did not mention it at the end of the job. He will remove the towbar at no cost if requested.

Any thoughts or help appreciated

Are we talking about a Granvia or a Hiace here - I'm not sure if the exhaust systems are the same - so the fitter might be right.

It might be possible to reposition the silencer box slightly differently by using longer or shorter rubber hanging mounts. Unfortunately the exhaust sections bolt together with flanges, otherwise the box could have just been twisted slightly to clear the tow hitch.

The exhaust exit is well to the right of the vehicle centre line so must be a very substantial bit of bracketry on the tow bar to foul it. Is it not possible to "nibble" a bit off it?

Just as an update, after a few visits to exhaust centres they said they had no slack to move the box away from the tow bar bracket. So I had a stainless steel exhaust fitted so it would be made to measure to miss the bracket. When finished they had not actually fitted a back box at all so all I have now is the centre silencer and a straight pipe to the rear of the vehicle. They said it did not need the rear box - and they were correct, there is no change in noise at all.
