Reverse beeper

Postby PUSHKIN » 11 Jan 2018, 16:25

I have the later shape 1999 Granvia and would like to get rid (or quieten) the reverse beeper because it’s now got parking sensors , how do you tell which dash is fitted to know whether it needs “stabbing” or I can just twist and pull out etc !?

I don't think there is any way of knowing! You'll just have to pull out the instrument panel and look at the beeper fitted to your panel's circuit board.

The details of what you can try are in the thread "How to disable the reversing beeper" in the Announcements section above. If you don't want to destroy the beeper just to mute it, then I suggest a bit of adhesive tape or a blob of silicone/acrylic filler.

I’ve taken off the surround and removed the instruments but can’t for the life of me suss out where the beeper noise is coming from, i’ve covered every hole with my finger and even popped a couple of bulbs out where I thought the noise was coming from but to no avail, it definitely seems to be coming from the rhd of the instruments, am I simply missing something ??

You could have the same problem as Acehi41 with his '97 Regius when he reported in the "Disabling the reverse beeper" thread that he couldn't find the beeper: "... and it appears that the beeper is deep inside and probably soldered on to the circuit board." You could try to PM him to see if he found a solution?

Good luck!

That’s exactly what I was wondering Richard, i’ve worked in the parts motor trade all my working life and there was nothing on the back that didn’t look like printed circuit or bulb holder which would suggest it’s buried deep inside, i’ll send a pm on the off chance .
Thank you :-)

Finally got around to thinking about fixing tiresome reverse beeper but in conversation with sparky we think that the beeper also works for keys left in and lights left on so we’re now wondering if the inhibitor switch or the reverse lamp switch has a feed to beeper that we can simply cut, will keep you posted :-)

Not on my Granvia!

When I muted my reverse beeper, it had no effect on the other audible alarms - I wish I could mute the ignition-key warning beeper but I don't know where it is.
