My rear tailpipe recently fell off 2 days after an MOT at a Toyota main dealer (I believe the tester was a little heavy handed with the screwdriver when checking for holes).
Toyota quoted me around £270 just for a back box (3.0TD).
The back box is still in place (not noisy) and there doesn't appear to be any exhaust leakage to the cab but there is soot visable on the rear bumper and I'd like to get it fixed.
I've been quoted £500 locally or I have the other option of ebay £300 but have to drive around 450 miles which will be around £120 in fuel.
I'm going for the local option (Surrey). The company have been around for years and provide a lifetime guarantee.
I can provide details if anybody is interested.
I've only ever bought stainless exhausts for my vehicles as they last (supposedly forever).
Well in a word, badly! The 3 studs where the exhaust meets the manifold were totally seized. Gallons of wd40, several grazed knuckles and lots of swearing couldn't get them to budge. I didn't want to apply too much pressure as the nuts were surprisingly small and could have sheared. So, I paid a garage to fit it. I was pleased to hear that they needed to heat the nuts up to red hot to get them to shift - not something I could have done. Changing the filters etc was relatively dead easy! The van sounds silent now with the new exhaust (I kinda miss the monster truck rumble but still).
So, lessons learned! Thanks again for your help and encouragement! I'll be back...
