Steering judder and ABS on

Postby mumstaxi » 25 Apr 2018, 22:54

Hi im a newbie ,
Can anyone help me please ,,, I have a 1996 3L TD 2WD Granvia and my ABS light stays on all the time , and i also have a lot of juddering when braking , the higher the speed i.e on the motorway the worse the juddering , ive asked an auto electric to do a diagnostic on it but they dont have a machine to diagnose this age of car for the ABS ,,, the guy also said my juddering will be a warped disc? is this the case, and for the ABS does anyone know where to put the wires to get a diagnostic code for the ABS ?

Thanks in advance ;)

Did you check sensors ?
Usually a front nearside ABS sensor goes first ....

Hello Mumstaxi
Your guy is almost certainly right about a warped disc if the juddering only appears when you apply the brakes, as for the ABS, first port of call would be the wheel sensors if you cannot find anybody with the correct code reader, there will be a diagnostic port under the bonnet below the windscreen and there could also be a more standard OBD one (not sure what year they introduced this one) under the dash to the left of the steering column, you do not need to remove anything to get to these.

As well as the likelyhood of a bad wheel speed sensor.
The ABS light was on in my first van and it would go out if I pumped the brakes hard, it can detect air in there.
