2 x Granvia problems - advice please?

Postby Ric220 » 23 May 2018, 18:22

Hi. My '96 4x4 Granvia TD has 2 problems which I need advice on - hope you can help;

My steering is getting REALLY heavy when cornering. Weirdly it's heavier at higher speeds (opposite of what I'd expect). I had the tracking done 6 months ago and all the tyres are fairly new (and balanced). I had similar symptoms a year ago but getting the wheel bearings adjusted sorted it for a while. My mechanic reckons there's no play in the bearings now. It might be unrelated but there's a slight hum from the wheels when cornering at low speeds. Tyre pressures are fine. Can anyone help?

Finally, going into drive or reverse when stationary or applying power when coasting results in a clunk. The (recently replaced) front prop shaft has been checked and it's tight. Cd this be engine mounts?

Thanks all - any help much appreciated.

Update; I've just noticed the front passanger tyre is worn on the outside edge (only 4 months old). There's also a vibration at around 70mph. As I mentioned before I had the tracking done about 4 months ago and the tyre pressures are fine. Hope someone can help. Cheers.
